1. Availablitity

The first thing you will need to ask is the date is available? When planning a wedding venues are secured first and then you start finding your vendors. Choosing your wedding venue early allows you to choose some of the top vendors in your area.

2. How much Experience Do You Have?

DJ’s experience is essential. Ask about the number of events they have performed and have they ever played at the venue you have booked. If they havent been to the venue, will they do a site visit before the wedding . Be specific and ask how many weddings have they done in the last year. Playing at a birthday party, fundraiser or prom is different than playing at a wedding.

3. What Genres of Music Do You Specialize In?

It is important to consider who your guests will be . It is important to confirm your DJ’s comfort in the genres you and your guests enjoy. A great DJ can seamlessly mix a variety of styles. For example, being able to transition from a popular 90's hip-hop song to a modern song should be easy. It is important for your DJ to keep the energy up and everyone dancing.

4. Can You Provide References or Reviews?

Ask for references from previous wedding clients. A reliable DJ should easily provide positive feedback from past events. Check out their online reviews but asking if they have a CD of some of the music they play at a wedding or from a prior wedding where they have performed would be a good idea.

5. What Equipment Do You Use?

The quality of sound equipment can make or break your event. Ask for specifics regarding their setup, including speakers, mixers, and microphones.

6. Do You Have a Backup Plan?

If Technical issues occur do you have a back up plan? Knowing that your DJ has a backup plan will certaintly give you peace of mind. Do they have another DJ who can cover for them incase of an emergency or what do they do. Do you bring backup equiptment?

7. What is Your Pricing Structure?

Make sure you know what is included in the fee. Ask it they have packages that might include lighting design, or a photo booth . Bundling the additional services can often times help you save money. A DJ who combines all these services can save you about 15% compared to hiring multiple vendors. Clarifying these details prevents unexpected costs later on.

8. Do You Require a Deposit?

Know you financial commitment before signing your contract. A deposit is often necessary to secure your date with a DJ. Know the exact cost of the deposit, the due date and whether it is refundable if the event is canceled.

9. Are You Open to Requests?

Consider whether your DJ is open to taking song requests during the event. Can he be flexible and take requests that are different from the planned playlist. Getting your guest involved and having the fun of requesting a song makes for a memorable night and a more personalized experience .

10. Are you insured?

Most wedding venues will ask that you provide certificate of insurance for all your vendors. Be sure to ask if they have liability insurance that protects both you and the DJ against potential accidents or incidents. Insurance will cover any unforeseen circumstances.

At Antler Ridge Weddings and Events located near Grand Junction Colorado we have seen and have been a part of many barn weddings. Having a professional experienced wedding DJ can make or break your special day. We suggest using a DJ from our perferred vendors list. They have been to our venue more than once and will be able to make all the necessary transitions needed throughout the night. (walking down the aisle, the cocktail hour, the first dance etc.). We encourage to you ask if they will emcee for your wedding and help with announcements such as releasing tables during the reception.
