In this blog post, we will look into the question on everyone's minds, Wedding Linens: Rent or Buy? Our Colorado barn wedding venue , located on the western slope shares some informative information about Wedding linens that we have gathered over the years.
If you have begun planning your Colorado Ranch or Barn wedding , one of the questions likely on your mind is a decision to either rent or buy your linens. The linens are an important part in your planning as they play a significant role in setting the tone for your event. Wedding Linens can add elegance to your table setting and can portray your personality.
At Antler Ridge ,we have seen many table scapes from elegant, country, Bo Ho, rustic and everyone is beautiful at this Colorado Barn Wedding Venue ! That is why barn venues are so versatile. Choosing your color of linens definetly sets the tone and the overall ambiance of the venue. Let us help you make an informed choice when it comes to renting or buying your wedding linens.
Advantages of Renting
Renting can be cost-effective, offers more variety and is convenient. Let's talk about the Cost of renting . Most people are surprised to learn that the cost is actually quite comparable. In many cases, the cost to rent is slightly higher than the cost to purchase. Dont be fooled by the fact that the initial investment seems lower than purchasing, and the fact that you can resell them after the wedding. Seems like a no brainer, right? Well... not so fast there is alot to think about.
The Hidden Cost of Purchasing Your Wedding Linens
Purchasing your own linens seems like a very attractive option. Not only are you saving a little coin but hey they're brand new! What could go wrong? As a venue owner here in the Grand Junction Co, area, I would like to share some thoughts on the hidden costs that are generally not factored in until it's too late. Let's walk through the experience of preparing your linens:
Washing: New linens come machine folded with heavy creases in them. They are packed tight for easy shipping. You cannot just throw them on the tables right out of the package, they must be ironed or steamed. A typical home washer can generally accommodate 2 linens at a time. So needless to say this is very time consuming and probably not something you want to do the day before or the day of your wedding. At Antler Ridge Weddings ,we have seen brides do this very thing. They buy linens from another bride or online and they bring them in and put them on the table only to find out they are wrinkled. Most linens have creases and wrinkles that only a professional cleaners can get out. If you do decide to buy just know that an average wedding uses about 30 linens, so you will need to plan on about 15 loads of laundry! And then add your time to iron or steam.
Storing: Storing can be a problem after you have washed and ironed them. Where do you store them.? If you fold them back up, the creases will return (though they will be much less aggressive creases once they are washed). Can you hang the linens to store them? Of course! But you need to have the room and the space.
Irons & Steamers: Rental companies generally use commercial grade equipment to remove creases. Your iron may reduce the depth of a crease, and even remove some small ones. But it will not acheive the look you want for your special day! Even the high powered steamer is not the cure all . We have witnessed the wedding day panic from the decorating crew once it becomes clear that the steamer that they've brought on site is not going to do much for these creases. And the time it takes to try to get creases out is crazy. We will be putting this infomation in our QA so all brides are aware.
Taking Dirty Linens Home: Another job to consider is taking those dirty linens home. Once you begin laying out the linens to look for stains, you will need to spot treat. Cleaning wedding linens are alot of work and often times you are in for a very messy, tedious task of scrubbing individual stains. Once you are done the spot treating, you get to repeat the cycle of washing everything. DO NOT put the linens into the dryer without checking for stains as you will set them in. Then you have the job of Selling them.......
Selling Your Linens:
Just one more job! Selling your wedding linens. Yes, you can sell on line or list on a wedding site. But now, that you have managed to remove all of the stains, wash, dry, and fold all of your linens the next bride will be looking for deal so most often in the end ......you end up losing. Then the question is was all the work and maybe stress worth the few dollars you saved. So in the end when you calculate the amount of time your have invested, you may come to realize that the cost to buy the linens was a more expensive option. The end result might be less than per
Advantages of Buying:
Some of the advantages of buying are the long-term investment, customization and emergency preparedness. Your long term investment might become a memento and something you might use again for future parties etc, Buying your wedding linens can add to a unique touch to your wedding or maybe you want more of an eclectic look. Lastly, owning your own wedding linens can ensure that you have extra linens for that last minute guest count.
In conclusion, there are a lot of decisions to be made when planning a wedding and whether to buy or rent wedding linens is a big one! You as the bride will have to decide which one fits your needs the most. Hopefully, this blog has brought an awareness to the hidden costs that are not always considered until it's too late. As a Colorado Wedding Venue we hope that this information has been helpful and will allow you to weigh these two options more accurately.Remember, whether you decide to rent or buy, the linens you choose will play a vital role in the overall aesthetic and feel of your wedding day. Make sure to select linens that reflect your style, enhance the ambiance of your venue, and create an unforgettable dream wedding............. Happy Planning!
